Initiation Ritual (Submitted by Alastar)

Preparation: This is best done on a Full Moon, on your birthday, or when both the sun and moon are in the birth- sign. Be sure to read over the rite and to fully comprehend each piece of symbolism and the reasons for each action and utterance. Prepare the altar with the God and Goddess candles and the supplies for casting the circle. Light the white taper before starting. Begin by casting the circle.

Supplies: Cauldron, sword, athame, chalice of wine, pentacle, wand, ritual cakes, salt, burner, incense, chalice of water, white taper candle, God and Goddess candles, perfumed oil matching the incense, and the four Element candles.

Here I am on this day, today, to perform a very sacred act. I am here to initiate and dedicate myself, (magickal name), to the Wiccan way.

Remove the hood of your robe if you are wearing one. Say:

I am the almighty God/dess (magickal name) of the (domain). I am born of an earthly father and mother, but I wish to die to be reborn of the God and Goddess.

Look toward the white taper candle.

I stand at the gate between the living and the dead on this night of initiation. Death. . . a necessary transition on the Wheel of the Year. I am willing to die for my beliefs and my practices. I am willing to die for the Wiccan way.

As this is said, blow out the white candle. Carve your magickal name on it with your athame. This can be done using runes and/or other symbols. Anoint the candle with a perfumed oil matching the scent of the incense used. Next, place the candle in the center of the cauldron (or chalice) and light it using both the God and Goddess candles.

I stand at the gate between the living and the dead on this night of initiation. Rebirth. . . a necessary transition on the Wheel of the Year. I am reborn from the cauldron waters of the Great Mother and the airy breath of the Great Father.

Take the salt water chalice and sprinkle water on each of the seven chakras.

I am blessed and purified by the Lady, the mistress of Earth and Water.

Then take the incense burner with an incense matching the perfumed oil, and pass the smoke over each of the seven chakras.

I am blessed and purified by the Lord, the master of Air and Fire.

Next take the oil and anoint your forehead with an equal armed cross.

I am blessed and purified by the Spirit, both within and about, by Earth, Water, Air, and Fire, the almighty God/dess that I truly am. Blessed be!

Kneel with your head bowed and your body facing the altar.

I wish to and thus dedicate myself fully
To the beloved Lord and blessed Lady,
From within and about, by names known and unknown.
I call upon You to rule in your rightful place,
As I kneel unto your feet to do as You will
In whatever world, realm, or dimension.
I ask of You the necessities of living
And to be forgiven for my sins and mistakes,
Just as I forgive those sin or mistake against me.
Help me not to stray from your path of glory,
And save me from myself when I chose to stray,
For I strive only to be worthy of your Kingdom
And your Power and your Glory. So mote it be.

Stand facing the altar.

I, (magickal name), must swear to the Craft's one and only commandment before being accepted into the Wiccan way.

Hold your sword (or athame) high.

Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfill. . .

You should look up at the sword (or athame) as you say the following:

An harm ye none, do as ye will!

Point the sword (or athame) at the Goddess candle

I am initiated by the Great Mother. . .

Next point the sword (or athame) at the God candle.

By the Great Father. . .

Finally, point the sword (or athame) to the center and draw an equal armed cross in the air.

And by the Great God/dess that I am.

Replace the sword by the altar and begin the cakes and wine ceremony. Place the cakes on the pentacle. Say:

This is the bread, the fruit of the grain. Here I present this gift from the Almighty Goddess, the Great Mother in her many aspects. Thanks be to the Goddess!

Place the cakes to the left, and place the wine on the pentacle. Say:

This is the drink, the fruit of the grape. Here I present this gift from the Almighty God, the Great Father in his many aspects. Thanks be to the God!

Looking to the heavens or to the God and Goddess candles and pointing the wand at whichever one you look upon, say:

Now, at this time, I, the God/dess (magickal name) of the (domain) ask the guidance of the almighty Elder Gods in performing the cakes and wine ceremony.

You should place the plate with the wine and cakes on the pentacle and point the wand at the emblem. Visualize energy flowing from you through the wand to be directed by the pentacle to the wine and cakes.

With the blessings of the Elder Gods, I enrich these cakes and wine with the life energy of the world. They are no longer fruits of the grain and grape, but fruits of the Great Mother and Great Father.

Hold the plate high.

Pour some wine into the chalice. The athame should be used to cut up the cakes, dip them in the wine, and serve the pieces of the ritual cakes. When the cakes and wine ceremony is finished, you can conclude the ritual.

May I always be fruitful in my workings in the Craft and in my followings of the Wiccan way. I am a star of the heavens, a fiery child of the God and Goddess, a follower of the Lord and Lady.

Close the circle and conclude with refreshments. The white candle should either be left to burn out or should be used to light another candle which will always be kept burning (or at least keep the flame alive) until that person dies.
